The Fate of Pretty Little Liars Reboot Revealed After 2 Seasons

Looks like the students at Millwood High will continue to keep their secrets.
Max revealed Sept. 20 that the streamer has not renewed the reboot of Pretty Little Liars, instead opting to cancel the show after two seasons.
"While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of Pretty Little Liars," the company said in a statement to TV Line, "we are so grateful to our co-creators, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, as well as the team at Warner Bros. Television, for reintroducing fans to this new iteration of liars who band together to fight the latest creepy villain terrifying Millwood."
Max added, "Their unique and modern creative vision—combined with the immense talent of our cast and crew—gave the series a fun, horror-filled point of view that paid tribute to its original Rosewood roots."
The revived show—initially titled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin—first premiered in July 2022 and saw Zaria, Malia Pyles, Chandler Kinney, Bailee Madison and Maia Reficco stepping into the roles of the five Liars.
The series was the latest in the Pretty Little Liars franchise, which started in 2010 with the original show that starred Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson, Troian Bellisario and Sasha Pieterse.
The reboot's second season, which premiered in May, left viewers with quite a cliffhanger, showing a group of girls resembling the five leads in masks as they walked down the hallway at their high school.
And while they won't be returning to Millwood, the cast is already looking back fondly on their Pretty Little Liars experience.
"This show changed my life and put so many bright souls on my path," Pyles shared to X, formerly Twitter, Sept. 20. "Forever grateful for Pretty Little Liars and for everyone involved in bringing it to life."
Costar Reficco shared her own feelings about the cancelation, writing on Instagram Stories, "what a crazy 3 years-thank you for all the love you've shown us; it's been a dream come true. forever my lil liars see u next time."
And co-creator Bring is especially proud of what she and the team were able to create, posting to Instagram that she was "extremely thankful that, especially now, we got to tell meaningful stories with unique, diverse, queer, and powerful female characters. That is always what mattered most."
"Much love and gratitude to all who watched and shared and stayed up late to theorize," she continued. "I am forever changed by this experience and now know for certain I'd make it to the end of a horror movie. Final Girl Energy forever."
But there's still hope for an Liars reunion, especially as OG star Hale is more than ready to get back with her old castmates.
"Being far removed from it now, I almost appreciate it more," she told E! News in June, adding that would love the get-together to be done in the style of Real Housewives of Rosewood, joking, "I think that would be really fun."
